AJCS Seminar: Where is Sudan’s Political Transition Heading?

Al Jazeera Centre for Studies and Al Jazeera Mubasher are organizing a public seminar in Doha on Thursday, 23 May 2019, under the title, “The Sudanese Revolution: The Challenges of Transition and Re-Building the State.”

The seminar will gather several Sudanese politicians and activists inlcuding Idris Suleiman, Secretary General of the Popular Congress Party; Satea Ahmed Elhaj, member of the Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces; Mohamed Esmat Yahya, politician and member of the Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces; Nahed Mohamed Elhasan, writer and political activist; and Ahmed Abushouk, professor of modern and contemporary history at Qatar University.

These participants will debate the recent contentious developments in Sudan after toppling the government of President Omar al-Bashir. They will discuss the complexities of the current situation in the country and the expected paths of transformation, and probe into the methods that could be promising in the process of transferring power to civilians, resolving the current economic crisis, and dealing with regional and international intervention.
