Within the Al Jazeera paper series, Al Jazeera Centre for Studies has issued a book entitled The Armament Program in the Gulf Region by Dr. Abduljaleel Zaid al-Marhoun.

The Armament Program in the Gulf Region gives Dr. al-Marhoun a field look into the reality, policies, and programs of armament in the Arabian Gulf and its vicinity –indicated by the author as Iraq, Iran, Yemen, India, Pakistan, and Israel – which affects and is affected by the region.

The book consists of an introduction, seven chapters, a conclusion, and the author's biography. The author dedicates the first chapter to the armament program in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. In the second chapter, he discusses armament and military expenditure in Iraq while in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh chapters he discusses those in Iran, Yemen, India, Pakistan, and Israel respectively.

Al-Marhoun's vision is based on the exploration of the prospects of armament in the Arabian Gulf and its regional vicinity and the analysis of the three main orientations of contemporary defense studies, and they are: study of military theories, the elements that form the security theory of the state and region, and concepts of wars – both local and regional as well as traditional and nuclear. The other orientation, however, focuses on defense policies of states, alliances, or regional groups, highlighting the security theory of the state based on the analysis of the geopolitical environment and the entailed definition of sources of risk, the military doctrine, the size of the army, the method of allocating its ground, naval, and air units as well as air defense units.  The third orientation pertains to the armament program and focuses on a study of what states do in terms of military expenditure, the development of the size of active military forces, importation of arms and military equipment from local and external manufacturers.
