Al Jazeera Centre for Studies is organising an international conference in collaboration with European Palestinian Council for Political Relations in Brussels, titled “The Genocidal War in Gaza One Year On: Humanitarian, Legal and Political Implications in the European Context.” The conference will take place at the Press Club Brussels Europe on 14 October 2024 from 10:00 AM to 17:00.
The conference is being held to mark a year since the beginning of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. During this period, Israeli occupation forces have committed documented crimes against the Palestinian people, including war crimes, genocide and racial discrimination. Despite international mediation efforts, including those by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, no agreement has been reached to end the war, facilitate prisoner exchanges or resolve the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
The conference will bring together a distinguished group of experts and specialists in international law, as well as politicians, journalists and activists from the fields of health and humanitarian relief. The aim is to shed light on the humanitarian impact of the war and to examine European policies in response, both at the official level and through public engagement.
The programme will feature three main sessions:
- The first session will discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank, and the impact of the war on Palestinian civilians.
- The second session will focus on the legal situation and the role of international justice in holding war criminals accountable.
- The third session will examine European positions on the Israeli war and its political implications.
The conference will conclude with a summary of the discussions and recommendations regarding the European role in ending the humanitarian crisis and ensuring justice for the Palestinian people.
The sessions can be followed on Al Jazeera Mubasher and through AJCS’s digital platforms on social media.
