Al Jazeera Centre for Studies and Al Jazeera Mubasher are organising a webinar under the title, “Developments in Iraq’s Political Scene,” set to take place on 11 September 2022 at 6:00 pm Mecca standard time with the participation of a select group of researchers and academics.

The seminar will discuss developments in the Iraqi scene against the backdrop of the political crisis resulting from the dispute between the Sadrist current and the Coordination Framework. It will also shed light on the reasons behind the failure to form a new government after the early elections that took place last October and present the features of the political and media conflict between the two parties.

Moreover, the seminar will dedicate a segment of the discussion to the positions of the Sunnis and Kurds towards the conflict and the impact of these positions on the opportunities for and prospects of resolution. It will also examine the factors behind the failure of the National Dialogue Conference that the government of Mustafa Al-Kadhimi’s government tried to organise, and the impact of the regional and international roles on the crisis as well as mediation efforts to resolve it.

The seminar will conclude with a forecast of the possible courses the crisis could take as well as its implications for Iraq’s political and security present and future.

The webinar will be broadcast on Al Jazeera Mubasher and live-streamed on the following social media platforms:
