Al Jazeera Media Network’s pavilion at the ongoing Doha International Book Fair is experiencing a notable increase in visitor numbers compared to previous years. Of particular interest to attendees are the publications from Al Jazeera Centre for Studies, especially recent works addressing regional issues such as the Israeli war on Gaza and its geopolitical implications.
This year, the center presents over 120 titles at the fair, alongside its well-established journals, Lubab and Al Jazeera li Dirasat al-Itisal wa al-I’lam (Arabic: Al Jazeera for Communications and Media Studies). Among the highlights is the Arabic translation of the French book, Le complexe de sécurité de la Méditerranée occidentale: Dynamiques de sécurité et migrations (5 + 5 défense) (The Western Mediterranean Security Complex: Security Dynamics and Migrations [5+5 Defence]). A book signing event with the author, Abdennour Benantar, is scheduled for Thursday, 16 May 2024, at 6:00 pm, at Al Jazeera’s pavilion. Additionally, a discussion session is planned to delve into An-Nidal al-Filistini: Tahawulatuhu wa Tahadiyatuhu (Arabic: The Palestinian Struggle: Transformations and Challenges), released last year and co-authored by a group of writers. The session, moderated by Chafic Choucair, editor of the book and researcher at AJCS, will take place on Friday, 17 May 2024, at 6:00 pm.
In addition to Al Jazeera Network's publications, its pavilion hosts numerous events and workshops, such as those organised by the Al Jazeera Media Institute. These workshops offer insights into various courses in journalism, public speaking, photography, translation and professional ethics.
The 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair, themed “Knowledge Builds Civilizations”, runs until 18 May 2024, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center. With a record participation of over 515 publishing houses from 42 countries, this year's fair showcases more than 180,000 new titles across various fields of knowledge and sciences. Furthermore, it includes broader cultural involvement from embassies of friendly nations.
