Al Jazeera Centre for Studies is organising a research conference in Addis Ababa in collaboration with the Institute for Foreign Affairs in Ethiopia set to take place on the 11th and 12th October 2024. Titled "Africa: Challenges of Fragility and Capitalising on International Competition", the conference will feature a distinguished group of researchers and experts specialising in African affairs.

The conference will address a range of internal challenges, both chronic and emergent, facing African countries, and seek effective strategies for addressing these issues, mitigating their risks, and managing their consequences.

Additionally, the conference will explore external challenges, particularly the intense international competition for Africa’s resources and wealth. This competition has sometimes escalated into conflicts, with proxy wars used as tools by various regional and international powers.

The aim of the conference is to develop a vision that enables African countries to achieve the development their populations seek, helping them avoid fragility and political instability that undermine development achievements and exacerbate crises and suffering. The conference will also explore the prospects and pathways for Arab-African cooperation, including the necessary policies, strategies and programmes.

The conference sessions will take place over two days, and Al Jazeera Mubasher is set to broadcast some of them. Those interested can also follow the live stream on the Al Jazeera Center for Studies' digital platforms on social media.
