Tunisian Minister of Human Rights and Transitional Justice and government spokesman, Samir Dilou, visited Al Jazeera Center for Studies on Monday, 5th November 2012. The Minister met with the center's researchers and employees to discuss the challenges facing post-revolution Tunisia.

"Some key challenges are systematic: all the conflicting political players have yet to accommodate the requirements of the transitional period, which requires maintaining the democratic process, reinforcing the revolution and its gains, and focusing on the overall objectives rather than partial matters," he stressed. He also added, "These steps are necessary for the replacement of the dictatorial regime with the democratic system."

The Minister also gave an analysis of two important factors: administration and media. Although the administration may have greater authority than the elected government, the media "does not report events but shapes them and may become a haven for those who lost the elections. It is now clear that if you do not own the media, you are fighting without a cover," said Mr. Dilou.

The talk was followed by an extensive discussion that dealt with the Tunisian government's handling of the media industry and addressed some of the proposals that guarantee freedom for the media sector and contributes to the success of the transitional phase.
