Dr. David Phillips, Director of the Program on Peace-Building and Rights at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights in New York met with AJCS Centre Director Dr. Salah Eddin Elzein and other Centre researchers on 22 February 2012. The discussion focused on the nature of the Centre's work, and current events in the Arab world. In particular, the exchange explored the situation in Iraq after the withdrawal of US troops, developments since the Arab Spring, and prospects for reform.

Dr. Phillips discussed possible collaboration between the AJCS and his Institute in the future, suggesting several areas of mutual interest that highlighted issues of human rights.
