The challenges of the post-Tunisian Constitution on the table for discussion at AlJazeera Center for Studies

AlJazeera Centre for Studies organized yesterday, Tuesday, April 1st, 2014, a seminar at its headquarters in the Qatari capital Doha to discuss the so-called challenges of the last chapter of the transitional stage. Among the guests; general rapporteur of the Tunisian constitution, Mr. Khader Habib, and a number of researchers.

 The debate was about the aspects characterizing the experience of democratic transition in Tunisia and the factors that helped in achieving this progress compared with its counterparts in the countries of Arab Spring.  In this context, Mr. Khader Habib presents the stages of drafting the Tunisian constitution and the obstacles encountered by this experience, Which ended in a national and political consensus making it highly prized internally and externally. Khadr also shed light on the shape and nature of the political system as outlined in the Constitution and the methodology followed in the distribution of powers and responsibilities between the legislative, executive and judicial branches in order to achieve balance and prevent abuse. The seminar was concluded by talking about the challenges that still face Tunisia in the next stage and expected scenarios for the process of democratic transition and the coming electoral benefits.
