AlJazeera Centre for Studies will be holding a series of seminars themed, “Five Years Into the Arab Spring: Achievements, Failures and Future Scenarios”, starting 5 January 2016. These seminars will be held every Tuesday throughout the month of January from 6:00 pm to 8 pm, in AlJazeera Media Training and Development Center’s Auditorium.

The panellists for each seminar are from among the  Arab world’s most elite thinkers, researchers and policymakers. Each seminar will be broadcast on AlJazeera Mubasher. During the first seminar on 5 January, the panellists will focus on the successes and failures of the Arab revolutions in the political, security and economic sectors, as well as the cost of counter-revolutionary movements on the path to democratic transition.

The second seminar, to be held 12 January, will discuss the roles of key players during transitional phases, including those in power, the opposition and civil society. On 19 January, during the third seminar, the panellists will discuss the roles of regional and international players in these revolutions, with a spotlight on the Syrian case.

In the fourth and final seminar on 26 January, the panellists will address the future of these revolutions and draw scenarios for the region, debating whether the region will see political reform and democratic institutions that will realize Arab Spring demands, or whether the region will continue to witness increasing conflicts and a rising cost of change, eventually resulting in an entirely new regional map.
