Al Jazeera Centre for Studies (AJCS) is organising a seminar in collaboration with Al Jazeera Mubasher entitled “The Libyan Crisis: Field Complications and Prospects for Regional and International Initiatives”. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, 21 March 2017, at 7:00 PM at Al Jazeera Media Training and Development Centre Auditorium near the TV Roundabout.
An in-depth analysis for developments in the Libyan scene at both the internal and the external levels, particularly after the changes on the ground following the recent fighting around Libya’s oil fields triangle, will be delivered. An added factor is the resulting conflict of interests between regional and international powers over Libya and the Russian advent into the crisis.
The changes in the Libyan scene occurred after Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt initiated a three-party initiative for a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis. A number of European countries concerned with the Libyan crisis, namely France, Italy and Germany, have expressed interest in this initiative with growing fears of a joint Russian-American domination of the Libyan portfolio.
In order to discuss the developments of this crisis at the domestic, regional and international levels, AJCS and Al Jazeera Mubasher will host:
- Senussi Bseikri, Libyan writer and Director of the Libyan Centre for Research & Development.
- Al-Hussein al-Alawi, Mauritanian researcher and academic concerned with Moroccan affairs and the Sahel.
- Patrick Forestier, French journalist and writer specialised in Arab issues.
- Haoues Taguia, Researcher at Al Jazeera Centre for Studies.
