AJCS Roundtable Discussion on Lebanon’s Crisis

On 9 March 2016, AlJazeera Centre for Studies hosted Azzam Al Ayoubi, head of al-Jama’aa al-Islamiya (Lebanon’s Muslim Brotherhood), for a closed roundtable discussion on Lebanon’s crisis and sectarian polarization in the country.

On 9 March 2016, AlJazeera Centre for Studies hosted Azzam Al Ayoubi, head of al-Jama’aa al-Islamiya (Lebanon’s Muslim Brotherhood), for a closed roundtable discussion on Lebanon’s crisis and sectarian polarization in the country.

Some of the topics addressed by the speaker and attendees included the reality of sectarian splits in Lebanon, the role of regional conflicts in deepening these splits and implications of Saudi Arabia’s decision to stop arming the Lebanese army and security forces. Participants also asked the speaker to discuss implications of the GCC’s recent decision to classify Hezbollah as a terrorist group and how the Syrian revolution has impacted Lebanon.
