The seminar will discuss the future of the Syrian crisis following the Geneva and Astana peace talks. It will look at the differences and engagements which occurred between these two platforms. It will also interrogate the interests of regional and international players in the talks, how did self-interests of all parties involved in the conflict dictate the trajectory of the peace talks.
Furthermore the seminar will interrogate the role of the new US administration in the conflict. What will be the implications of Trump’s proposals to implement safe no fly zones in Syria? Finally the seminar will try to unpack the reasons behind the Arab countries absence Astana, how would that affect the future peace process in Syria?
