In partnership with the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), Al Jazeera Centre for Studies (AJCS) will launch the 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index (GGTTTI) on 30 January 2018. The launch will be followed by a panel discussion entitled, “Why Think Tanks Matter in the era of Digital and Political Disruptions”.

The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at theUniversityofPennsylvaniahas been reporting ranking of the world’s leading think tanks since 2006.  This was a response to a series of requests from donors, government officials, journalists and scholars to produce regional and international rankings of the world’s preeminent think tanks. The objective of the Global Go To Think Tank Index report is to gain a better understanding of the role that think tanks play in governments and civil societies.

As part of the nominations process, all 6,828 think tanks catalogued in the TTCSP’s Global Think Tank Database are contacted and encouraged to participate alongside over 25,000 journalists, policymakers, public and private donors, think tanks and functional and regional area specialists. This group of peers and experts is surveyed to both nominate and rank public policy research centres of distinction. This year over 60 think tanks, IGOs and other policy actors are to mark the launch of the Global Go To Think Tank Index for 2017.
