AJCS to host lecture on regional powers in the Islamic world

Al Jazeera Centre for Studies is organising a lecture by Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, member of the Expediency Council and president of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature in the Islamic Republic of Iran, under the title, “Regional Powers and the Future of the Islamic World: Cooperation or Competition?” It is set to take place on Wednesday, 1 December 2021, at 6:00 pm Doha local time.

The lecture will discuss the prospects and courses of the relationship between influential regional forces in the Islamic world and its impact on cooperation and competition and conflict between these forces, especially in light of geopolitical changes in the Middle East and the emergence of alliances that heightened competition in certain parts and deepened the level of cooperation in others.

Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, born in 1945, is an Iranian politician and scholar. He has a master’s degree in physics as well as a PhD in philosophy from the University of Tehran. He served as a deputy in the Islamic Consultative Assembly and was elected its president in the seventh round of elections, thus becoming the first non-clerical president since the Islamic revolution in 1979. In the 2012 legislative elections, he received the highest percentage of votes in Tehran.

Haddad-Adel is considered one of the most prominent Iranian principlist leaders in power today. In addition to his membership in the Expediency Council, he is also the president of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature. He has several publications, and the most notable of his work is a translation of the Qur’an to Farsi.
