Al Jazeera Centre for Studies released a new book at the beginning of November 2022 under the title, Al Jazeera in 1000 Academic Studies: PhDs, Masters, Books and Research Papers, on the occasion of Al Jazeera Media Network’s 26th anniversary.

Edited by Dr. Ezzeddine Abdelmoula, Manager of Research at the centre, the book presents information about academic research on Al Jazeera’s experience from its launch in 1996 up to its 25th anniversary in 2021. It contains 1000 studies divided into four sections: PhD dissertations, masters’ theses, books and research papers published in refereed journals. Among these works are 500 university studies conducted by researchers from over 300 universities in 60 countries and over 20 languages, including English, Arabic, French, German, Spanish and Chinese.

These research studies address Al Jazeera’s experience in all of its branches and components and explore its different aspects and dimensions. They also examine its impact on Arab and international media as well as public opinion, its orientations and political and social developments in the Arab region.

In addition to studies that focus exclusively on Al Jazeera’s experience, the book also contains studies that compare this experience with those of other Arab and global institutions and media networks. In these studies, Al Jazeera is compared primarily to global institutions such as BBC, CNN, Fox News, Sky News, Al-Arabiya, CTV, France24, Russia Today and TRT.

As for the level of academic specialisation, the studies in the book are not limited to the domains of media and communications, given the institution’s media nature, but include other domains such as political science, international relations, law, cultural studies, management science, educational science, translation, language studies and so on.

As a compilation of studies of different interests, specialisations and methodological approaches, Al Jazeera in 1000 Academic Studies is a fundamental reference for students, professors and researchers interested in this kind of unprecedented Arab media phenomenon. It is like a telescope with a thousand lenses, shedding light on every aspect of the experience, as the editor maintains. The materials in the book have been translated to languages aside from those mentioned above, including: Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Turkish, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Czech, Slovenian and Icelandic.
