This book addresses the major challenges faced by the United Nations such as achieving global peace and security as well as international cooperation. It also deals with the emergence of the organisation at a particular moment, dictated by unnatural alliances imposed by the Second World War. Even if the United Nations was able to serve or develop its methods to adapt to the changes of the international system during the Cold War, this ability has become almost non-existent under the present international system.
