Al Jazeera Centre for Studies has released its annual strategic report for 2024-2025, titled “Muraja’at al-Istratijiyat al-Mutasari’a fi dhou’ al-Harb ‘ala Ghazza wa at-Taghyir fi Surya” [Arabic: A Review of Conflicting Strategies in Light of the Gaza War and Changes in Syria]." The report analyses the strategies of regional and international powers involved in these events, including countries, groups and key actors in the region.

The report provides an in-depth examination of the core elements of these strategies, their objectives and priorities, while highlighting the developments in the region over the past year. It also evaluates the ability of these strategies to achieve their goals or their need for adaptation in light of rapid changes.

According to the report, Operation Tufan al-Aqsa has led to significant shifts in the Palestinian landscape, directly affecting the course of Palestinian resistance and Israeli occupation strategies. It has also prompted the Axis of Resistance, led by Iran, to reassess its priorities, with notable roles emerging for Hezbollah in Lebanon and Ansar Allah in Yemen, adding complexity to the regional situation.

The report also addresses the impact of political changes in Syria, stating that these shifts have reshaped the competitive dynamics between regional powers, particularly Turkey, Russia and Iran, as well as the United States. This reflects the overlapping interests and intricate international strategies in the region.

In this context, the report emphasises the continued international support for Israel during the war, contrasted with the lack of a unified Arab position on the Palestinian issue. It also points out that all parties have been forced to adjust their strategies to accommodate emerging developments, with the success of these strategies in the future dependent on their ability to seize opportunities and minimise risks in an unpredictable political environment.
