is a scholar with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, based at Chiba University, Japan. He is a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs; and a Fellow at the Toda Peace Institute, Japan. He is also editor of the series, Routledge Studies in Middle East Democratization and Government. His most recent co-authored book, Revolution and Democracy in Tunisia: A Century for Protestscapes, is published by Oxford University Press in 2024.
